La Tercera highlights Humboldt Cargo and its record in bee exports
Chilean company that transported 465 million live bees
We are proud to share that La Tercera featured a report on Humboldt Cargo, highlighting our pioneering role in the international transport of live bees and agricultural products. The publication noted that in 2024 we successfully moved over 2,200 tons of cargo, mainly cherries and blueberries, in addition to a record figure: 40,000 kilograms of live bees, equivalent to 465 million specimens.
The article also emphasizes our origin as a family-owned company led by Haydée Riquelme and her daughters, with a strong female-led DNA, and our strategic location at the ENEA Airport Center, just minutes from Santiago’s air terminal.
“We play a fundamental role in ensuring that these little bees, so sensitive to temperature, noise, and light, arrive in optimal conditions. This has allowed us to become a spearhead for new exporters.”
— Estefanía Stuardo, Commercial Manager
The article also describes the meticulous transportation process—compared to clockwork—that requires maintaining the hives between 5 and 12 degrees Celsius for 30 hours of travel, ensuring the bees arrive in Canada ready to pollinate Alberta’s fields in spring.
Female leadership, innovation, and logistical efficiency have established Humboldt Cargo as a benchmark in the sector, accredited by DGAC, IATA, and Customs, and a member of WCAworld and ALOG Chile. Looking ahead, our startup plans to grow by 15% in 2026, expanding bee exports and strengthening Chile’s position as a global leader in this niche.
